Grid Tied systems are typically implemented for businesses, as the cost per kWh installed is much lower. Subsequently the Return on Investment for Grid Tied systems are much shorter.

Residential Solar PV Systems normally includes a battery component to supply power to Safety, Security & Entertainment equipment during Loadshedding. The battery component as well as the Inverter function to manage the batteries increases the overall cost of such a system. Grid Tied systems can be implemented for Residential application to supply power demand during the day.
